The Steele County Sheriff’s Office maintains a joint Records Department with the Owatonna Police Department. That department is responsible for maintenance and distribution of reports/citations generated by both entities.  Copy charges for various reports include:

  1-4 Pages    No Charge              
  5-9 Pages   $1.25
  10-99 Pages         25¢ Per Page
  Disks   $5.00 Each
   


Gun Permits to Purchase and Permits to Carry

These can both be obtained from the Records Department. For both permits there are forms to be completed and a background check is performed.  All fees must be paid in advance with cash or check only.

A Permit to Purchase takes between 7-10 days to process and there is no charge for that.

A Permit to Carry can take up to 30 days to process. Requires a driver’s license and a certificate of gun training.
Fees include:

  New Permit                       $100.00         
  Renewal   $75.00    0 to 90 Days Prior to Expiration              
  Renewal   $85.00    1 to 30 Days Past Expiration Date
  Veterans/Military Personnel      $25.00    You Must Provide Military Credentials
  Card Replacement or Data Change        $10.00  
     


Burning Permits are also disbursed through this office - there is no fee for this service. 

Driving Records:  We are no longer able to provide you with a copy of your driving record.  You must contact the MN Dept. of Driver and Vehicle Services.
