A - Z Disposal sub-categories:
Varnishes and stains cannot be placed in household trash for landfill burial. These hazardous products from Steele County homes should be brought to either the Steele or Rice County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facilities for free, proper disposal. Click here for more information about these HHW facilities. Usable varnishes and stains are placed on shelves at this facility for other adults to take home for reuse free of charge.
Very Small Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste (VSQG) Program
Businesses that generate hazardous waste must comply with state and federal regulations to properly manage these wastes. Businesses that generate less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste a month are classified as Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQG) of hazardous waste. Steele County’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility is not licensed to accept business hazardous waste; however Rice County accepts this waste from VSQG businesses. Businesses interested in bringing hazardous waste to the Rice County Hazardous Waste Facility for proper disposal must call this facility first at 507-332-6833 to arrange for an appointment and complete paperwork prior to dropping off hazardous waste. Most businesses will be required to obtain an EPA identification number. There will be a charge for disposal, but VSQG businesses will save money by bringing hazardous waste to Rice County’s facility versus hiring a licensed hazardous waste contractor to pick up the waste from the business.
