(Special Weapons and Tactics) Team

Steele County is currently providing two members to the SWAT Team.

Even here in Southern Minnesota, we live in a community with the potential for a violent incident due to the presence of risk institutions such as banks, post offices, hospitals and government buildings. Acts of violence by well-armed and trained perpetrators as well as the dramatic increase in the number of narcotics traffickers and gang members with tactical weaponry has left many cities without the proper resources to deal with the problems. This tactical option is a well-trained and equipped tactical unit

Team Goal and Philosophy
The safety and preservation of all human life will be the team’s primary goal. The SCDIU Tactical Team accomplishes this goal by acting as a law enforcement support unit, which is specially trained and equipped to resolve critical high-risk situations. Containment of suspects and negotiation procedures will be the team’s first responsibilities. SCDIU Tactical Team personnel strive to promote a cooperative and harmonious working relationship with other personnel of the agencies involved, generating interest toward common goals.

Various Assignments
Tactical team members may have various job assignments based on the needs of the team, the various situations the Team responds to, and the officer’s training, experience, and expertise. Team members receive training in as many areas as possible. The various duties include:
