The Steele County Sheriff’s Office maintains a joint Records Department with the Owatonna Police Department. They are responsible for maintenance and distribution of all reports/citations generated by both entities.
Requests for records can be made during regular office hours listed above. The cost depends on the length of the report:
- 1-4 Pages No Charge
- 5-9 Pages $1.25
- 10-99 Pages $ .25 Per Page
- Other Costs: Disks $ 5.00 each
- Audio Tapes $ 5.00 each
- VCR Tapes $20.00 each
Gun Permits to Purchase or Permits to Carry, can be obtained from the Records Department. For both permits there are forms to be completed and a background check is performed. The Permit to Purchase takes between 7-10 days to process and there is no charge for that. A new Permit to Carry costs $100.00 (cash only, due with application) and requires a driver’s license and a certificate of gun training and can take up to 30 days to process.
Burning permits are also disbursed through this office – there is no fee for this service.
Please note we are no longer able to provide you with a copy of your driving record. You must contact the MN Department of Driver and Vehicle Services. |
