Sheriff Thiele was elected in the November 2010 election.

His position entails supervision of the following entities: Steele County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Steele County Detention Center; Special Deputies; Mounted Posse and the Water Patrol. He is responsible for keeping this county office a fiscally responsible entity, while still providing a strong law enforcement presence in the entire county. The Sheriff reports to the County Administrator and County Commissioners.

Chief Deputy Hanson’s position puts him at 2nd in command at the Sheriff’s Office, which means he assumes the responsibilities of the Sheriff in his absence. He oversees the Detention Center staff, patrol and investigations, and transports.

He helps formulate our budget and the policies and procedures manual. He is our liaison on the Dispatch Advisory Board and the government entities for Ellendale and Medford.

The Administrative Assistant is directly accountable and provides administrative support to the Sheriff and Chief Deputy.

Responsibilities include correspondence and communications, processing of payroll, oversees accounts payable and receivable for both the Sheriff’s Office and the joint Law Enforcement Center’s accounts, maintains personnel records, assists in the hiring process, maintains and distributes proceeds from forfeitures and generates information for reports required by various agencies whom the Steele County Sheriff’s Office is accountable to.
