Recorder's Office

The Recorder's Office is responsible for the legal records of all real estate in the County. Permanent records of deeds, mortgages and other various real estate documents are recorded and/or filed here. There is a recording fee for all documents. Copies of recorded documents can be obtained for a fee. 

As Registrar of Titles, this office generates Certificates of Title conveying land under the Torrens land system. Personal property liens on crops, machinery, household goods, etc. are filed here. The liens are entered into the state-wide computer network and lien searches are generated from the computer for a fee. 

Military Service Discharges are recorded and no fee is charged for that service. County Officials Bonds and Oaths of Office, official plats of land in the city and rural area and Federal and State Tax Liens are filed in the Recorders Office. This office will assist customers in obtaining legal descriptions for Steele County property as well as determining ownership of parcels of land. 

This office also handles Vital Statistics for the County.
