What is a Child and Teen Checkup?
Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC) are routine well-child exams. They are a benefit for children on Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare. These checkups include:
- Developmental assessments
- A complete physical exam
- Hearing and vision checks
- Information on good health and nutrition
- Lab tests, including lead tests for toddlers
- Immunizations
- Referrals to other health professionals, if needed
Why are Child and Teen Checkups important?
- Regular health and dental checks help keep children healthy by finding and treating any health problems early.
- Children can get tested for exposure to lead or tuberculosis and other diseases.
- Parents and children can get information about healthy lifestyles.
Where do we go?
A Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC) are routine well-child exams done at YOUR clinic, by YOUR healthcare provider. Take along any health forms you need signed for Head Start, WIC, school, sports, camp or daycare.
When should my child get a Child and Teen Checkup?
- Between birth and 1 month
- At 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 months
- At 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 years
- Every two years after age 6 - through age 20
When should my child go to the dentist?
- Within six months after the first tooth erupts or no later than age one.
- Dental visits can be made every six months, or more often if you have concerns.
