Degreaser

Degreasers and other solvents from Steele County homes must be brought to either Steele or Rice County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facilities for free, proper disposal as hazardous waste. Click here for more information about these HHW facilities. If the container is empty it can safely be thrown in the trash.

Demolition Debris

Loads of concrete, sheetrock/drywall, wood, plaster, metal, insulation, roofing/shingles, siding, bricks etc. can be brought to the Steele County Landfill for disposal for various fees. Click here for more information about the Steele County Landfill and for instructions on how materials must be separated for disposal in the demolition (unlined) area at the landfill. Many types of waste cannot be disposed with construction/demolition materials. If they are not separated from building materials, there will be a higher fee for disposal of the entire load.

Drain Cleaner

Corrosive cleaners, such as drain cleaners, oven cleaners, naval jelly, toilet bowl cleanser, concrete cleaners etc. from Steele County homes should be brought to either the Steele or Rice County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facilities for free, proper disposal. Drugs

Except for chemotherapy drugs, prescription and non-prescription medications from Steele County homes can be disposed in regular household trash. To discourage theft of these unwanted drugs from garbage, add water to pills and add sand or other contaminants to liquid medications. Removing or blocking labels will protect privacy. Chemotherapy drugs need to be returned to the hospital or pharmacy where they were originally obtained. Read additional disposal information under “Sharps.”
