Take an empty 3 pound coffee can with plastic cover and pack inside:

• Candle Stubs & Matches
• Small, sharp knife
• 2 quarters taped to lid for phone calls
• Plastic Whistle
• Red bandanna or cloth
• Large plastic garbage bag
• Plastic flashlight & batteries
• Snacks
• Safety Pins
• Plastic spoon
• Bulky & heavy items:
  • Booster cables
  • Tow cable or chain
  • Road flares & reflectors
  • Sand or cat litter in plastic or paper milk cartons for extra traction
  • Shovel (Hub cap may be used if you can remove it.)
  • Snowmobile suit & boots
  • Sleeping bag or blankets
  • basic tools

Store what you can in the passenger compartment when severe winter weather threatens in case the trunk is jammed or frozen shut.
