CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS - DETENTION CENTER

Steele County Detention Center is taking applications for Corrections Officers to fulfill a Department of Corrections (DOC) contract.  These positions are full-time and contingent on the DOC contract.  The positions involve the care and control of inmates (male/female) in the Steele County Detention Center.  The employee is responsible for making decisions based on Department of Corrections Rules and Department Policies and Procedures.  Assignments are performed according to established policies and procedures. 

Special Note:  The Steele County Detention Center accepts applications at all times for Correctional Officer positions.  As we receive them we will batch them and set testing dates and interviews.  Selected applicants will be added to the eligibility pool as positions become available.

HOME HEALTH AIDE-PT

Steele County Public Health Nursing Service is seeking a part-time Home Health Aid for the Adult Health Division.  Responsibilities include working with individuals and families in the clients’ home providing personal care activities and other duties as assigned.  The position requires certification as an HHA, valid MN driver’s license, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  The position is part-time up to 19 hours/week (scheduled on an as needed basis); starting wage is $12.69 per hour.

PHYSICAL THERAPIST STEELE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH

Steele County Public Health Nursing Service is seeking to contract with a Registered Physical Therapist.  Responsibilities include working with adult clients in their homes.  Requires current MN physical therapy licensure and a valid MN driver’s license.  Home care experience preferred but not required.  More information may be obtained by calling Steele County Public Health at (507)444-7650.  Applications will be accepted until position is filled and may be sent to Steele County Public Health, 635 Florence Ave., Owatonna, MN. 55060.  FOUR SEASONS/PARK & REC PART TIME ARENA & PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER

The Steele County Four Seasons/Park and Rec Department has openings for part time arena and park maintenance workers.  The work involves responsibility for performing a variety of tasks requiring some skill and knowledge acquired through work experience.  Assignments frequently include the use of standard or specialized hand tools, ability to operate light equipment, and the ability to associate with the general public.  Work includes setting up and maintaining an ice sheet, care and maintenance of arena and other recreational areas.

Requirements for this position are a High School diploma and a valid driver’s license.   Desired qualification is experience in maintenance of park and recreational facilities and ice arena.

2016 SEASONAL HIGHWAY POSITIONS (Maintenance, Engineering, Clerical)

The Steele County Highway Department is currently hiring positions for the 2016 season. Positions include maintenance, clerical, and engineering. Hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Pay range:  $9.00-$14.58 DOE.

JAIL ADMINISTRATOR

Are you looking for a fulfilling and challenging leadership position in jail administration? Steele County is currently recruiting an experienced Jail Administrator to join our team of professionals. The Detention Center operates under the Steele County Sheriff’s Office. Our facility has 160 beds and 45 dedicated, full-time employees.  We house both male and female pre-sentence and sentenced Steele County detainees, along with detainees from other Counties, State and Federal organizations, including a contract with the DOC. We believe in the safe, humane and fair treatment of all individuals housed in our Detention Center with an overall mission of providing optimal public safety in Steele County.

Position Summary:
The Jail Administrator is responsible for the overall safety, operations, programs, policies, procedures, maintenance and personnel of the Steele County Detention Center; planning for current and future Detention Center needs; overseeing and negotiating contracts for contracted services; providing budget and fiscal requirements; monitoring operations to assure compliance with statutes, laws and regulations pertaining to jail operations; serving as liaison between staff, Sheriff’s Dept. and County Board; overseeing the selection, training and supervising of all jail personnel; staying abreast of trends and developments in the field of corrections and jail administration.     

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma with a minimum of 8 years of experience in corrections/related field, to include 3 years of supervisory experience required; Or a combination of education and experience (3 in supervisory capacity) to equal 8 years will qualify for application. Degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Criminology preferred. 

Salary: $65,748 - $92,040

ASSISTANT COUNTY ENGINEER

Are you looking for a fulfilling and challenging leadership position in County Engineering? Steele County is currently recruiting for an Assistant County Engineer. Steele County’s Highway department maintains a transportation system that includes 755 lane miles of road, 132 bridges and more than 6,000 traffic signs.

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for providing professional highway design, traffic engineering and analysis in the development of highway and parking lot construction and traffic engineering plans.  Duties of the job includes such tasks as supervising, delegating work, directing, training and guiding engineering technicians in highway design, engineering principles, practices and procedures, determination of data collection needs, geometrics, pavement design, hydraulic design, signing and striping design, traffic control layouts, highway plat and permits reviews, interpreting State and Federal regulations, preparation of environmental permits or reports, determining right of way needs. This position also includes construction management and supervision of construction activities, assisting in budget preparation, coordination and management of professional engineering consultants, administration of bridge safety inspection program, and additional tasks as assigned by the Engineer.         

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering with a minimum of 5 years related highway/bridge design and construction experience that includes 3 years supervisory experience required. Professional Engineer License in the State of MN required.

Salary: $65,748 - $92,040

HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The Steele County Highway Department is seeking applications to fill a Highway Maintenance Technician position. This position is responsible for operating a wide variety of highway maintenance equipment used in maintaining County roads and bridges. The position performs routine maintenance activities such as culvert repair/replacement, crackfilling, shouldering, graveling of roads, snow removal, bituminous patching, traffic control and much more.

High school diploma or GED required plus a minimum of 3 years experience operating construction and/or maintenance equipment, and requires a Class A commercial driver’s license with an air brake endorsement. Hiring range is $17.16 – 18.83, DOE.
